DayZ Is Relaunching on PC with New Engine

DayZ Is Getting a Makeover

The open world survival horror game DayZ is relaunching on PC with a new engine before the end of the month. Although it generated quite a bit of hype a few years back, it has been stuck in Early Access on PC since 2013. However, developer Bohemia Interactive still assures that it’s hitting Xbox Game Preview at some point in 2018.

“We’re releasing DayZ on a new engine in a couple of weeks on PC, and it’s gonna be coming to Game Preview on Xbox this year,” said lead producer Eugen Harton. “That’s basically our aim. I would almost say it’s a reboot of DayZ on PC.”

In regards to the title leaving Early Access, Harton didn’t comment. But he did touch on the relaunch in light of the many titles competing with DayZ.

“It might not become a mainstream thing, but that’s not our customer,” he said. “I’m okay with that. I know what game I’m making – I don’t want to appeal to everybody. I still feel like we have not hit our peak. This is the year of DayZ.”

“The hardcore simulation we’re working on is not gonna compete with PUBG, It’s not gonna compete with Fortnite.”

Harton thinks that DayZ will appeal to a different customer than Fortnite and PUBG, which he says appeal to children and competitive types, respectively.

“I think we have a different customer. I’m pretty sure of that,” he said.

And while they’re still planning a console release, they are now aiming to release it on Xbox One before the PlayStation 4.

“As soon as the PC beta is headed in a way we like, we’re still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game,” Harton said.
