The Evil Within 2 Video Review
Say what you will about Bethesda Studios, they know how to elicit the right emotional response. When the Evil Within first launched, it was a sleeper hit that took a while to grab the attention of gamers, however, once they knew what it was, The Evil Within became a staple for what a horror video game could be. From Shinji Mikami, the mind behind some iconic horror experiences in video games, The Evil Within was easily considered one of the stand out terrifying games to grace our consoles, so The Evil Within 2 launching three years later must be a stark improvement, right? To find out what we thought of this chilling tale, check out our video review below.
The Evil Within 2 sees players take control of Sebastian Castellanos from the previous game. Sebastian has seen better days since we last saw him, with no one believing his story about the horrors of his experience. With promises of Sebastian’s daughter still being alive, he makes the choice to activate the STEM system and enter Union – a virtual city built of fear – in the hopes he can rescue Lily.
The Evil Within 2 relies on some common survival-horror tropes such as searching for supplies, limited ammo, and stealth options to make your way through the nightmarish horror of the mutated and undead monsters that lurk in the shadows. The game has been praised for its atmosphere and stellar visual effects, particularly in lighting and shadows, but the controls and AI leave something to be desired.
The Evil Within 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. For more information, check out the official website. If you’d like to see how we fared playing the demo before launch, check out the video here.
