Start Your Battle in Oaks vs OrcsÂ
Oaks vs Orcs is bringing a fresh twist to the strategy genre, and players can now try it for free. Chaos Theory Games has released a public demo for its roguelike strategy autobattler on Steam, giving players an early look at its unusual mix of deckbuilding, tactical combat, and forest management.
Set in a world where the last surviving forest is under attack, Oaks vs Orcs puts players in charge of defending the Great Tree from an invading orc army. The catch? Your battlefield is built around a river, and where you place your troops and defenses can completely change how your strategy plays out.
The river starts from a single source and flows across the tactical grid. Connecting tiles to the water unlocks bonuses, while carefully building paths can activate powerful groves and chain different effects together. Every placement matters, especially as the orc invasion grows more dangerous.
The demo includes two decks, six campaigns, and an invasion-level difficulty designed to push players’ strategies to the limit. Chaos Theory Games says its earlier prototype attracted more than 7,000 players, with the average session lasting over an hour. Player feedback has since helped shape the game’s card pool, campaign pacing, and boss encounters. One player even managed to reach wave 72 by spreading swamp across the entire map.
Oaks vs Orcs still has plenty of growing to do, but its mix of deckbuilding, tactical choices, and living forests already makes it an interesting one to watch. The full PC release is currently planned for 2027.
