Oaks vs Orcs Will Start Its Defence Very Soon on Steam

Defend the Forest at All Costs in Oaks vs Orcs

Orcs are coming for the forest, and they are bringing axes. Indie studio Chaos Theory Games has announced Oaks vs Orcs, a roguelike strategy auto-battler that puts players in charge of the last living forest as it fights back against an invading orc army. The game is coming soon to Steam, with a playtest already available for players eager to jump in.

The goal is simple: protect the Great Tree while turning a small patch of woodland into a powerful living kingdom. Players build across a tactical grid, deploy troops and defenses, and carve a river through their growing territory. The river does more than provide scenery, as connected tiles unlock bonuses while its path determines which groves awaken and how their effects spread across the battlefield.

The strategy gets even deeper between waves. Players can choose from more than 100 cards featuring structures, combat units, and mutations that can completely change how their forces behave. Seasonal changes will also reshape the terrain and its bonuses, forcing players to rethink their strategies as they push through 20 waves and multiple boss encounters. Alongside multiple campaigns, the game will feature an endless mode with leaderboards for players looking to see how long they can survive.

“In most kingdom builders, the forest is the first thing you clear. In Oaks vs Orcs, the forest is the kingdom,” said Nico King, Creative Director at Chaos Theory Games. “You bend the river and turn a tiny ecosystem into a living war machine. We love that contradiction: the more beautiful your kingdom becomes, the more dangerous it gets.”

If you like strategy games with a creative twist, this forest is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
