Find Your Family in Mister Scary
A charming new retro platformer is creeping its way onto modern platforms this Halloween season. Publisher Ratalaika Games and developer CALGAMES have announced that Mister Scary launches on October 2, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for $5.99.
Originally developed for NES, Mister Scary stars an adorable purple monster searching for his missing family across a delightfully spooky world. Inspired by a toddler’s imaginary friend, the game embraces classic 8-bit visuals and fast-paced side-scrolling action. All while embracing a playful Halloween atmosphere.
Players will battle through six handcrafted stages, each filled with hidden paths, creepy creatures, and multiple sub-areas to explore. At the end of every stage, a unique boss awaits, bringing six different monster encounters that test your platforming skills.
Mister Scary also packs a few clever tricks. You can stomp enemies the old-fashioned way or grab spicy and icy snacks to burn or freeze your foes. Even better, ducking sends the little monster into a nap, making him temporarily immune to damage. This turns an unusual ability into a strategic tool during tougher sections.
Beyond the action, players can collect Scary Tokens to earn extra lives, travel across a retro-style world map, and enjoy an authentic chiptune soundtrack composed by Logan E. Schad and Kevin Van Der Burg. The modern release also includes Retro Achievements on supported platforms.
With its nostalgic roots, quirky mechanics, and festive Halloween charm, Mister Scary looks ready to deliver a spooky adventure that’s equal parts cute and challenging.
