The indie game developer Titan has announced that the upcoming tactical deckbuilder, Sugarstar Academy, will launch in March 2027. Not only that, but a free demo is already live on Steam for everyone to try out.
Set in a magical academy, Sugarstar Academy mixes deckbuilding with grid-based tactics in a fresh way. Every character card you play becomes a unit on a 5×5 battlefield, turning each match into a careful game of positioning, timing, and squad synergy.
The biggest twist is its battlefield prediction system. Before combat begins, the game reveals where enemies will land, giving you the chance to claim key tiles, support allies with smart formations, or hold powerful cards for the perfect moment. You can deploy only one character card per round, so every move carries real weight.
Once your formation is locked in, battles unfold automatically based on unit order and abilities. Victory depends less on quick reactions and more on how well you built your deck and arranged your team. Hero Skills add another strategic layer by letting you influence fights without sacrificing your round’s deployment. Used at the right time, they can trigger devastating counterattacks and completely change the flow of battle.
Between missions, you’ll expand your deck, customize your squad, and bond with fellow academy students through RPG-style conversations that push the story forward.
