Set Your Foot on the Mysterious Continent of NOSTRA
Dark fantasy JRPG NOSTRA has officially arrived on Steam with a new alpha demo, giving players an early look at the ambitious solo-developed project from Runecraft Studios.
The demo covers the game’s opening two to three hours and will continue to grow through future updates ahead of NOSTRA’s planned November 2027 release. Set on the mysterious island continent of Nostra, the game revolves around three kingdoms locked in an uneasy peace while an unknown threat begins stirring beneath the surface.
Players begin their journey in a seemingly insignificant village before entering the wider conflict. NOSTRA combines its story-driven adventure with tactical side-view combat, where positioning, timing, and resource management matter more than simply grinding for stronger characters.
The game also features separate character specialisations and procedurally generated gear with affixes, tiers, and sockets. Its world includes a dynamic day-and-night cycle, changing weather, dynamic lighting, spatial audio, and NPCs that follow their own daily routines.
The alpha also incorporates feedback from gamescom 2026, where 486 people played the demo at Runecraft Studios’ booth. According to founder Gökhan Cirag, watching players experience the game without assistance proved particularly valuable.
“Four hundred and eighty-six people sat down at my booth at gamescom and played without me explaining anything first. That is the most useful thing that has happened to this project so far. This alpha demo is the version those people argued me into, and it keeps growing with every update.”
Although NOSTRA uses RPG Maker MZ, the developer has significantly expanded the engine with 82 in-house plugins collectively known as NeoEngine.
The game will launch on PC via Steam in November 2027, with English and German support. For now, the alpha offers a promising first taste of what this unusual solo-developed JRPG is building toward.
