Welcome to the Dark World of NOSTRA
Runecraft Studios has released a new demo for NOSTRA, its ambitious dark fantasy JRPG, giving players a deeper look at its mysterious world, tactical combat, and unsettling story ahead of its planned 2027 release.
Set on the isolated continent of Nostra, the game throws players into a fragile peace between three kingdoms. While each kingdom watches the others with suspicion, something far more dangerous is beginning to emerge. Strange portals are appearing across the land, suggesting that an ancient force is slowly awakening.

The new demo expands on the version shown at gamescom 2026, where the studio recorded 486 playthroughs at its Hall 10.2 booth. Runecraft Studios used that feedback to sharpen combat pacing, improve encounter sizes, streamline the tutorial, and make the interface easier to read. The result is a two-to-three-hour slice of the adventure.
Combat is built around positioning, timing, and resource management rather than endless grinding. Characters can develop into distinct specializations, while procedurally generated gear adds another layer of customization through different affixes, tiers, and sockets.
NOSTRA also packs a surprisingly detailed world. Dynamic weather, day-night cycles, lighting, shadows, spatial audio, and NPC routines make its villages and environments feel alive.
The game runs on RPG Maker MZ, but the solo developer has heavily customized the engine through 82 in-house plugins known collectively as NeoEngine.
NOSTRA will launch on PC via Steam in November 2027, with a dedicated Steam Deck build and English and German language support. If you’re a fan of old-school JRPGs with a darker edge, this is one to keep an eye on.
