Witness Unique Stories in Knights of Frontier Valley
MicroProse and solo developer Martin Menzel have announced the second playtest for Knights of Frontier Valley, giving players another chance to experience the upcoming roguelike RPG ahead of launch. The free Steam playtest goes live on September 15.
The new playtest arrives shortly after the game’s appearance at Gamescom and introduces Version 0.5, a substantial update shaped by feedback from thousands of players who participated in the first testing phase. The latest build expands both the game’s world and its core systems while addressing several community-requested features.
Among the biggest additions are recruitable companions and party-based tactical gameplay, two brand-new fully explorable cities, a new story chapter, fresh quests, and additional dungeons. Players will also find expanded crafting mechanics, more side activities, new item traits, three selectable difficulty settings, and a range of technical and performance improvements.
The developers have also implemented several quality-of-life features that players asked for during the previous playtest. These include multiple save slots, quicksave and quickload functionality, inventory stacking, and extensive combat and balance refinements.
Knights of Frontier Valley draws inspiration from classic RPGs of the 1980s and 1990s, placing players in a procedurally generated open world filled with factions, survival mechanics, tactical battles, and meaningful choices. Every adventure unfolds differently, encouraging exploration, character progression, and careful decision-making.
With the second playtest just around the corner, it looks like an excellent opportunity for RPG fans to see how the game has evolved.
