Welcome to the Prison City
Retroware has officially unveiled a brand-new accolades trailer for Prison City, putting the spotlight on the game’s growing list of positive reviews. The Philly-based indie developer and publisher shared the trailer as the physical pre-order campaign enters its final stretch. The trailer gives players a closer look at how critics have responded to the retro-inspired action platformer. You can check it out for yourself right below.
The trailer pulls in quotes from critics across the board. Video Chums describes the game as “retro done right,” while Nintendo World Report calls it an easy recommendation for anyone with a soft spot for the 8-bit era. That reception clearly means a lot to developer Programancer, who shared that the project originally began as a small passion project. Seeing it resonate with players has been both surprising and rewarding.
For collectors, the clock is ticking. Physical pre-orders through Limited Run Games are set to close on Sunday, March 22. Priced at $34.99, the release includes the full game on cartridge or disc. It also includes a reversible cover and three collectible Crazy Caps. This makes it a neat package for fans of physical editions.
Alongside the trailer, the game’s final update, Version 1.0.4.0, marks the end of nearly three years of continued support. This update introduces new movement options such as mid-slide jumps and attacks. It also features expanded combat abilities with a directional Special Attack, and a reworked DCP Headquarters stage with multiple layout styles. Additional mini-game variations, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes round out the update.
Inspired by classic 8-bit titles and gritty sci-fi themes, Prison City is now available across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam.
