Wield the Flaming Sword Once Again in Nocturnal 2
Indie developer Sunnyside Games has announced that a playable demo for its upcoming flame-driven metroidvania Nocturnal 2 will arrive on Steam on January 27. The demo offers more than an hour of gameplay and serves as a carefully curated introduction to the world, mechanics, and tone of the full experience. Players will explore an early area of the game, unlock key abilities, engage with its combat system, and begin uncovering fragments of the story. The team specifically designed the demo to preserve the mystery of the full release, avoiding major narrative or structural spoilers. The game is currently planned to launch later this year on Nintendo Switch and Steam.
Nocturnal 2 is an atmospheric metroidvania that takes place in the ruined city of Ytash, a once great place now consumed by darkness and decay. Players take on the role of Ardeshir, the bearer of the Enduring Flame, who ventures through the city’s shadowed depths and towering structures in an effort to lift a devastating curse from his homeland. Fire is central to both survival and exploration, shaping combat encounters and illuminating the path forward in a hostile world.
The game features a richly interconnected map that gradually opens as players unlock new abilities, encouraging return visits and discovery. Its hand-drawn visuals draw inspiration from Persian architecture, creating a distinct and evocative setting. Movement and combat are fast and flexible, allowing fluid and expressive playstyles. Hidden paths and secret endings further deepen the experience, rewarding careful exploration and attention to detail. Nocturnal 2 focuses on atmosphere and discovery, delivering a minimalist yet immersive journey through a world of flame and shadow.
