Enter the Lighthouse as The Last Keeper
AstraInteractiveGames has opened the public playtest for The Last Keeper on Steam, giving players an early chance to step into its eerie world. Anyone interested can join through the game’s Steam page and become part of the growing community. The official trailer offers a first look at the atmosphere the team has crafted, setting the tone for a story that blends routine with slow-building dread.
The Last Keeper places players in the role of a lighthouse keeper whose daily duties gradually shift from simple tasks to a fight for stability. Each day brings rising tension fueled by hunger, violent storms, mechanical failures, strange noises drifting through the fog, and a constant sense that an unseen presence is watching. Maintaining order within the house and the lighthouse becomes essential. Dirt and neglect influence the character’s state of mind, draw unwanted visitors, and interfere with the operation of the light that keeps ships safe. Survival depends on staying focused as the environment steadily tests both endurance and sanity.
The story draws inspiration from one of maritime history’s most unsettling mysteries. In December 1900, three lighthouse keepers vanished without a trace from the Flannan Isles. The Last Keeper constructs its fiction on real accounts, drawing from documents, diary notes, and quotes derived from authentic historical sources. The developers acknowledge works such as Keith McCloskey’s book The Lighthouse, official reports from the Northern Lighthouse Board, and contemporary articles from The Scotsman published between December 1900 and January 1901. These references form the backbone of the game’s narrative, offering a respectful tribute to the real individuals lost more than a century ago.
The Last Keeper is planned for release on Steam, with the team targeting a launch window in the first quarter of 2026.
