Life Below Will Debut a Demo at Gamescom 2025

Build the Perfect Reef in Life Below

Kasedo Games and Norwegian studio Megapop will showcase a demo of Life Below next week at Gamescom 2025. It is an imaginative sub-aquatic “reef builder” with a strong narrative touch from award-winning video game writer Rhianna Pratchett. Visitors can find the booth in Hall 7.1 (A02) and get a first-hand experience of the game.

In Life Below, you will play as Thalassa, the guardian of the Heart of the Reef. Then embark on a mission to restore vitality to the deep ocean. By channeling the Heart’s energy, growing coral structures, and nurturing marine ecosystems, you must revive the underwater world before it fades away.

The game blends the creativity of city building with the ever-changing challenges of the ocean. Players must balance reef expansion with evolving threats, from heatwaves and rising acidity to garbage clouds and jellyfish migrations. Wildlife plays a central role, with crafting and luring systems allowing players to discover and attract new species, while managing habitats and resources.

It also offers three perspectives for exploration, up close with marine life, the classic top-down view, and a full map overview, all designed to highlight the ocean’s beauty. A species collection book encourages players to catalogue the life they help restore.

Accessibility is a core focus. Developed with consultant Arevya and the UK charity SpecialEffect, the game incorporates features to make it one of the most inclusive city builders to date.

With its rich blend of ecological strategy, dynamic challenges, and storytelling, Life Below aims to bring a fresh perspective to the genre. It will release for Windows PC in 2026.
