Were it So Easy
Lance Reddick left behind a great legacy of acting earlier this year. Not only was he a great drama actor for film and television, his involvement in gaming cannot be overlooked either. He played Commander Zavala in Destiny 2 and this role will carried on by another legendary actor.
Commander Zavala is a central character in Destiny 2. Instead of letting the character die with him, Bungie has decided to recast Zavala with Keith David. If you don’t know him from his film and television career, you may know Keith David as a voice in one of your favorite games.
Keith David has played The Arbiter in the Halo series, when he started his working relationship with Bungie. He also played Julius Little and himself in the Saints Row series and David Anderson in Mass Effect. David also voiced Spawn in the 1990s animated series, a role he reprised in Mortal Kombat 11.

In a statement, regarding the transition of the role, Keith David said, “I am honored to continue the great work of Lance Reddick as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s sense of integrity so wonderfully. It is my intention to continue that work.”
Bungie also said that Lance Reddick’s voice lines would remain as they are. This is a stark difference to how they recast Peter Dinklage’s Ghost with Nolan North in Destiny 1 with North rerecording existing lines.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
