Overwatch 2 Devs Confirm 35 Million Player Count in Its First Month
Overwatch 2 has been in the gaming market in just over a month. However, Activision Blizzard has revealed in their latest quarterly report that the game has done very well in just those first four weeks.
The game amassed 25 million players during its first 10 days. It managed to add yet another 10 million players to that count throughout the rest of October. This number is not only limited to returning players. According to the Overwatch 2 report, it includes “many who were new” to the franchise.
Furthermore, devs also mentioned that “player investment is also off to a strong start.” Fans think that devs were referring to the sales of cosmetics and battle passes. With that said, it would seem that Overwatch 2 was able to maintain its near-triple daily player count compared to the original throughout the month.
The gaming community is convinced that these numbers are reinforced by Overwatch 2’s transition to free-to-play. So far, this change seems to be working in the game’s favor. How it will pay off for future player retention remains unclear for now.
Devs want to retain this trend. With that said, they revealed to the franchise’s following that they prepared “an ambitious slate of regular seasonal updates for Overwatch 2 that introduce new characters, maps and modes.” This reportedly includes its “much-anticipated PvE mode” which they have already planned for a 2023 release.
Overwatch 2 fans are already well aware that tank hero Ramattra will be among the new characters coming to the game next year. Unfortunately, fans actually know very little regarding what they can find when Season 2 launches.
