CDPR Details Improvements in The Witcher 3 Next Gen Update

Nice, Shiny Geralt

In just a few weeks, fans of The Witcher 3 will have a bunch of reasons to return to the game. The next gen update will be coming out on December 14th. Earlier today, CD Projekt RED streamed a breakdown of all the improvements and additions coming next month.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came out in 2015. Players curious about the visual improvements made since then will want to check this out. The PC update will add a whole bunch of different graphical presets to maximize quality and performance for your machine. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will also have Quality and Performance modes.

There will also be a new photo mode. PC players had ways of taking screenshots to highlight the visuals, but now both PC and console versions will have a native photo mode. This will have a lot of the same features, dials, and doodads that launched with the Cyberpunk 2077 photo mode, though it probably won’t allow Geralt to change positions or emote.

The upgrade also has a set of dynamic camera options. In the settings, players will be able to change the camera distance in different situations. Whether you are on horseback, exploring on foot, or in combat, you can mix and match your camera preferences.

Combat in The Witcher 3 involved a bit of strategy, depending on what foe you were fighting. Casting Signs could be a bit clunky, but now there will be a Quick Cast shortcut. Holding down the shortcut will turn your other buttons into different Signs (face buttons on controller), making combat flow better.

While you might want to take it all in again from the beginning, you don’t have to start over, even if you are playing on a new platform. The new update will enable cross-save.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The free update will become available on December 14th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
