Sony announced to the gaming public today that the prices both models of the PS5 will increase worldwide. However, it is worth noting that there will be no price increase for the US gaming market. In Japan, on the other hand, prices will go up on September 15th. The standard unit will cost 60,478 Yen from 49,980 Yen. The digital model will cost 49,478 Yen from 39,980 Yen. This is a whopping 20% increase. This is perhaps one of the most substantial price hikes in gaming history.

Many Final Fantasy 16 fans in Japan have taken to social media to lament that the price of Sony’s next-gen console will most likely keep them away from getting the franchise’s next installment. With that said, they are hoping to be able to get the chance to play the game on their PCs.

The vagaries of machine translation somehow make it difficult to get accurate quotes from the Final Fantasy community in the region. However, it has become clear that Epic and Steam keep coming up. It would seem that calls for a PC port are getting louder. Some fans are also hoping that devs launch the game for the PS4. Still, the clamors for a PC port are much more common.

Early marketing material for Final Fantasy 16 pointed to the possibility of a PC version. In fact, previous reports suggested that it was already in the works. However, Square Enix has since backed away from this assertion. It would seem that PS5 is now the only confirmed platform.
