BOOM, Madden Moment
Legends never die. John Madden, namesake of the Madden NFL series, did pass away in late 2021. However, his legacy continues to live on. For the first time since Madden NFL 2000, John Madden is back on the cover for Madden NFL 23.
For 22 years, EA had put current NFL athletes on the cover for their NFL games. John Madden was on the cover from 1988-2000. Yesterday, on Madden Day, EA revealed the cover for Madden NFL 23. There are three different covers for the game, all featuring John Madden.
The All Madden Edition uses the same photo of him from the very first Madden NFL game from 1988. The image is touched up a bit and has him busting through a wall, like he did in the original image. Another cover uses a photo of the Oakland Raiders lifting him up after a Super Bowl Championship win in 1976, which he coached.
The last of the three covers shows him as a sports commentator later in his career. Each of the three covers is from a different arc in his iconic career in football history.
Madden NFL 23 will be the first game from the series since John Madden’s passing. It will launch on August 19th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
