Quakecon 2022 Will Officially Be A Digital-Only EventÂ
Quakecon was founded in 1996 and has grown exponentially since then. The event began as a local gathering of fans of Quake and ID Software. However, it has grown into a distinguished event in the gaming community, where hundreds of gamers bring their own computer and have amazing LAN parties. The events offer a wide range of activities for fans including presentations, sneak peeks, reveals, information, announcements and tournaments. Furthermore, the event includes various charitable benefits. Today, the team has announced that Quakecon 2022 will be a digital-only event. It will be held between 18th to 20th August. Fans can watch the entire event unfold online.
In a release, the team stated that they were disappointed in not being able to return to Dallas, Texas and that to have an in-person event would require a ton of commitment and organization. The release goes on to state that the team is working on stream programming, meetups, charity opportunities and more.
In closing, the team indicate that they are committed to working on a full in-person return for the festival in 2023 wherein players can host major LAN events, contests, games, stories and experiences! The team stated that it is excited for the online event!
The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly impacted the world of video games. Besides various delays in video game development, many expos and events were postponed and cancelled. For example, recently, it was announced that E3, the industry’s biggest show, would be cancelled. The shift to digital entertainment is interesting!
