Lost Ark Had a Successful Western Release
Lost Ark now has topped 20 million players worldwide. Developer Smilegate RPG launched the free-to-play MMORPG in America and Europe on Steam on February 11th.
Within three days, Lost Ark has gained over 4.7 million players. Now, more than 10 million of its following come from Australia, North America, South America, and Europe.
Devs first launched the game to the gaming public on December of 2019. The game had millions of active players in Russia, Japan, and Korea prior to its release in the West.
Just one day after its Western launch, Lost Ark recorded Steam’s second highest concurrent player count with 1,325,305 players. According to SteamDB, the MMORPG is by far the most popular game on Steam with more than 815,000 concurrent players.
“Overall, the excitement surrounding Lost Ark from around the world is quickly gaining steam as evidenced y the growing number of global players,” said Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann. “Together with Smilegate, we are committed to supporting the growing community with a robust road map of updates in the years to come.”
Lost Ark has definitely been popular among gamers across the globe with aggregate scores of 81 on Metacritic and 82 on OpenCritic.
Two common complaints among Lost Ark fans involves the gender-locked classes and the prevalence of very revealing outfits for female characters. Franchise Lead Soomin Park has confirmed that changes are on their way.
“Classes are tied pretty closely to their character models in terms of function and animation,” Park said. “So bringing opposite gender characters to a class takes more work than just making a differently gendered model available.”
“However, Smilegate RPG is actively working on this,” Park added. “We are also including some new outfit options that are not quite as revealing but these are an addition, and not a replacement.”
