Gran Turismo 7 Will Have 2 Discs for PS4 and 1 Disc for PS5
Gran Turismo 7’s launch is just over two weeks away. However, there seems to be a big cross-gen divide. In addition to visual differences, it would seem that PS5 users have one more advantage over previous-gen users.
PlayStation Direct has separate listings for the two platform versions. There is very little that differentiates their packaging. However, it has been reported that physical copies for PS4 will come in two discs, while PS5 will only come in one.
This website is a storefront that is accessible to certain regions that allow direct purchase from Sony instead of a retailer. It is currently available in the USA, France, BeNeLux, and United Kingdom. However, the Gran Turismo 7 listing has only appeared on the US version of the website.
Gran Turismo 7 fans spotted this detail at the bottom of the listing. Ultimately, it comes as a little surprise considering that it all comes down to the maximum capacity of the storage media.Â
Both the standard PS4 and the PS4 Pro have a regular BluRay Disc Drive. This limits them to standard BluRay discs. This format only has a maximum storage capacity of 50GB on a dual layer disc.
The PS5, on the other hand, has a higher standard UltraHD BluRay that was specifically designed for 4K capabilities. With triple layer discs, it can support up to 100GB. This is why Gran Turismo 7 will come on a one-disc game on its system.
The listed 110GB of Gran Turismo 7 data will definitely fit on a single dual layer BD disc. For the PS5, it is worth noting that devs could simply roll out the extra 10GB as a day zero or day one patch. If not, the recommended minimum install size may only be a buffer future in-game updates.
