Pokémon Legends: Arceus Reveals a Massive Gameplay Preview

A In-Depth Look at Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Gameplay

You’ll find the phrase “cautious optimism” a lot when digging through discussions of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The franchise has quite a few disappointed fans, but this new direction could bring them all back home. Some parts of the game are making people nervous (the graphics come to mind), but this open-world expansion of Pokémon’s typical formula has raised some eyebrows in the best way possible.

Now, Nintendo has posted a large chunk of real gameplay to their Youtube channel. This is the best look we’ve ever gotten at their upcoming title.

In the video, we get a clean look at the way you’ll be catching new Pokémon, as well as the new battle system. Wild Pokémon have different alertness states and personalities that affect how you approach them. And in battle, you can swap between “Strong” style or “Agile” style based on whether you’d like to deal more damage or hit faster.

One thing that may disappoint fans, however, is a lack of broader-scale info. We know the basic gameplay formula for open world content, but we don’t know what that open world will be populated with. Will there be side objectives? Treasures to uncover? It’s likely (given how many other open world titles do that exact thing), but as of yet unconfirmed.

The video also said very little on the game’s story content. It was all info we knew from previous trailers, but even that was sparse.

Overall, it’s an interesting showcase of what the game has to offer. More than worth the watch, if you’re curious about what Pokémon Legends: Arceus might shape up to be.
