Television Series Is Set to Recreate a Twisted Classic
There have been some great recreations of twisted classics coming up in the works. There is the upcoming game Lies of P which takes a spin on the classic tale of Pinocchio and sets the tale on a dark and twisted path. But is not the first game that has done so with dark fairy tales.
American McGee’s Alice (2000) and Alice: The Madness Returns (2011) did that when they came out on the various consoles. A twist on the Lewis Cowell Alice and Wonderland stories, these two games were less of a light dance into nonsense, and more into the trauma of the mind, and how the protagonist had to cope and claw her way up to lunacy.
Now, McGee’s games are in the process of being made into an adaption. According to Hollywood Reporter, Ted Field’s Radar Pictures now own the film rights for the Alice games. Moreover, it looks that the Solid Snake voice actor and writer, David Hayter, will be joining the project, presumably as a writer.
There has been no word as of yet of if the adaption has been attached to a studio or network yet, like Netflix or HBO. There has not been a cast announcement either. It’s difficult to say if the plot will follow the first two games in a rehashing, or if it will combine, and eventually flow into what is known as the unreleased McGee’s Alice Asylum script. As of right now, there are many possibilities when it comes to the future of the adaptation, where it goes to release, and even possible casting.
But, it seems, that Hayter has McGee’s full confidence. “David Hayter brings imagination, experience, and stealth sneaking skills gained through successful missions in film, TV, and video games – a unique combination sure to make this adventure into Wonderland a successful one for the franchise and the fans,” said McGee, “I am excited to be working with him and know the Alice fans will welcome him with mad affection.”
