Comes With New Roles, Cross-Play Ability, and More
Among Us is finally launching onto Xbox and PlayStation today on December 14, 2021. It’s been a long-anticipated cross-playability launch for the deception game, and one that comes with all sorts of fun goodies. Xbox in particular is celebrating this score for the game’s developer, InnerSloth, with their article bringing their game to the console.
Among Us is also available for free with the Xbox game pass, or can be bought in the Xbox store for 6.49 CAD. PlayStation, meanwhile, is also celebrating Among Us, saying that it is 6.99 CAD in its store. But while the Xbox version only has support (other than English) in Dutch and German and only in their interface, PlayStation has language support in their screen options in Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Dutch, English, French (France), Gaelic (Ireland), German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Spanish, Spanish (Mexico), and Tagalog. That’s a lot of translation, going to show that there is a lot of language accessibility for the social deduction game.
Both versions have the ability to cross-game across mobile, PC, and other consoles, ensuring that no one is left out of the game, should they want to play. And that includes the 15 character limit that’s the default for Among Us. So it looks as if nothing is lost, and everything is gained if people prefer to use game controllers over a mouse or their fingers.
Speaking of gain, this console release also includes the new roles that have come out as of late: the Scientist, which can access vitals at any time; the Engineer who can use the vents; Guardian Angel who can cast a protection shield around the remaining crew; the Shapeshifter, who can disguise themself by morphing into any other crewmate, causing all sorts of confusion while fulfilling their role as the Imposter.
This is all currently digital though. For those who want a physical copy of the game, that’s possible. But players will have to wait a little longer for even the standard, aka, crewmate edition of the game. There are pre-orders that can be found on Maximum Games for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, but the physical copies themselves won’t be out until December 21, 2021.
Until that happens, it’ll be fun to play InnerSloth’s Among Us on any platform through digital means.
