Battlefield 2042 Dev Has Left DICE Following Game’s Release

Battlefield 2042’s Head of Design Is Leaving DICE

Battlefield 2042’s Head of Design, Fawzi Mesmar, has confirmed that he has left DICE after the game released.  He was part of the team behind the Battlefield franchise, as well as numerous Star Wars: Battlefront titles.

I have been made an offer I could not refuse at another company that has been kind enough to wait for me until we shipped Battlefield 2042,” Mesmar said in an email. “It was super important to me to be here with the team as we achieve this historical milestone.”

He announced his decision to leave DICE in an email that he distributed to the company’s staff this week. Apparently, his decision to leave the company has always been part of his plan as soon as the studio’s latest shooter was launched to the gaming public.

Mesmar has been part of DICE’s steam since 2019. He has helped helm the design team of more than 80 creative directors and game designers.

It was an absolute pleasure to serve on the best design teams in the galaxy,” he continued. “The incredible design work that you do continues to inspire me everyday.”

Mesmar and DICE’s GM were discussing his “succession plans for some time.” Unfortunately, there is still no news on who is going to take his place. However, he confirmed that “it will be announced in due course.”

We opted to delay this communication until after launch to keep the focus, rightfully so, on the game we have been putting a monumental amount of effort on,” Mesmar added.

Mesmar’s final day at DICE is on November 26th. Although he has not named the new company he will be working with, he revealed that it will also be based in Stockholm. Despite his departure, Mesmar is in good spirits with DICE. “Thank you for putting some faith in me,” he said. “I hope I did not disappoint.
