LittleBigPlanet Is Back Online! Kind Of.
In an effort to “protect the LittleBigPlanet community,” the PS3 and Vita servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 are remaining offline permanently. For some good news, the PS4 servers have been successfully restored. This news comes after the servers have been down for months.
In May, Sony had to shut the servers down for the first three LittleBigPlanet games after hackers attacked and kept leaving malicious messages. The issue can be traced to last year where a fan used a DDoS attack because they were“unhappy with Sony’s treatment of the franchise.”
Now, all these months later, the LittleBigPlanet Twitter account announces that the PS4 servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 are back, and the PS3 and Vita games would have their servers permanently shut down.
Here is a statement from the LittleBigPlanet Twitter account:
“We have no doubt that this news will come as a disappointment to a lot of you. Ultimately this is the best way to protect the LittleBigPlanet community and to help ensure that our online environment remains safe.”
The PS3 and Vita games will remain playable offline, and the most important thing is that all the player-created levels will live on in LittleBigPlanet 3 on PS4.

This has been a strange, strange situation. While it is great to have the PS4 version back, why has there been basically no news on the situation since it happened? Sony has been pretty tight-lipped until we just get this surprise announcement that the PS4 is back and PS3 and Vita are never coming back.
The main takeaway I have here, other than Sony has poor communication skills, is that the user-created levels will live on. There are hundreds of levels that creators have put time into creating for others to enjoy, so it is great to know that players can keep playing them.
