Forspoken’s Newest Trailer Showcased Gameplay and Introduced New Protagonist Frey

Forspoken devs have just revealed a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming title. Luminous Productions and Square Enix showcased the preview during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase 2021, showing off a little more of what the game will look like. The game will be officially launched in spring of 2022 and will be available for PC and PS5 players at launch.

The story-focused trailer introduced protagonist Frey Holland as she was transported from New York City to the fantasy world of Athia. The game showed off gorgeous aesthetics, including the fact that Frey will be equipped with a talking bracelet wrapped around her arm. In addition to that, the trailer also revealed combat, traversal, as well as Frey’s magical powers. Being a game with a strong connection to fantasy, Frey will also have to use her abilities against a massive dragon.

Playing as Frey, you will need to harness newly discovered magical abilities to battle the terrifying monsters that inhabit the land,” said Luminous Productions Creative Producer Raio Mitsuno. “To have a chance of returning home, she will also have to contend with the Tantas—destructive and twisted all-powerful matriarchs who have dominion over Athia.”

Forspoken’s new lead character, Frey, “is a directionless, gritty, yet street-smart young woman who has persevered despite her rough upbringing in New York.” “Things take a turn for the unexpected when she is magically transported to Athia—a land where fantasies and nightmares are suddenly very real,” Mitsuno added.

Frey is voiced by Charlie’s Angels actress Ella Balinska. In addition to Balinska, the upcoming game will also feature the voices of Jonathan Cake as Cuff, Monica Barbaro as Auden, Keala Settle as Johedy, and Janina Gavankar as Tanta Sila.

Just last year, Forspoken was actually announced as Project Athia. It was only this March that devs gave it the official title of Forspoken. Square Enix is hopeful that Forspoken will make a good impression on its community, considering that they are going to include the highest quality of visuals that any open world game has had to date.
