Dying Light Likely Not Getting Next-Gen Update Anytime Soon

No Next-Gen Update In Sight

Techland’s Lead Level Designer Piotr Pawlaczyk has confirmed while talking to MP1st that there are currently no plans for a next-gen update for Dying Light. That is unfortunate but not surprising with their efforts currently focused on Dying Light 2.

MP1st: Speaking of the first game, next-gen consoles are here, so are there any plans at releasing a possible 60fps update or even a native next-gen port of the original?

Piotr: Right now, we are focusing on the release of Dying Light 2 Stay Human and other projects. So nothing to say at this time, but we hear our fans, and we know they are waiting for this kind of information.

I know I would love to see a next-gen update for Dying Light. It is a great game with fast action that would benefit greatly from better graphics, better loading times, and, most importantly, improved frame rate.

Running around doing hardcore parkour as you destroy zombies would be so much better at 60fps than 30 it is currently locked in at. It’s still a great game, but it could do wonders with modern technology.

On the other hand, the last thing I want them to do is to slow down work on Dying Light 2. It has already been hit with numerous setbacks, and I want the game out yesterday.

There is also some hope that Piotr didn’t outright say it will never happen, just that it isn’t happening now. Releasing it shortly after Dying Light 2 would be a good way to build hype and satisfy fans simultaneously.

I’m also very curious as to what those “other projects” are. Hopefully, we will get some more information on these mystery projects sooner rather than later.

Dying Light 2 is set to release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on December 7.
