A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Twelve Minutes

Time And Time Again

Of all the games shown off at this year’s digital E3 event, Twelve Minutes has to be one of the most intriguing. From the mind of Luis Antonio (the former art director of Ubisoft and lead artist on The Witness), Twelve Minutes is a time loop-based interactive thriller, following the 12 minutes in which one man’s life is turned upside-down. The game boasts a star-studded cast, with James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe all lending their voices.

Just today, a behind-the-scenes video was released by Collider Exclusives on YouTube, in which the cast and Luis Antonio himself discuss the themes of the game along with the process of voicing the main characters. In the interviews, McAvoy outlines his view on the game’s central theme: “Twelve Minutes is about the danger of truly examining within, and really looking deep and trying to unpick your actions”.

The video outlines the techniques used to record voice lines for the game, given the fact that all of the recording has been carried out remotely. The actors read lines to each other over Zoom calls, allowing them to bounce off of each other and work on their performances together. McAvoy described his experience of working with Dafoe online: “Getting to do it through Zoom with him, we get to make decisions based on a reaction, not just what I think my line should be”.
