A New Life, A New Purpose
The urban fantasy adventure game Unavowed took the Aggie Award for Best Adventure in 2018, and now it’s bringing its classic adventure game aesthetic and fantasy noir sensibilities to a new platform. If you missed this title when it first came out, this is an excellent chance to revisit the dark and magical underbelly of New York City.
In this game, players take on the role of an ordinary person who has spent the last year possessed by a demon, which used their body to commit murder. A lot of murder. Now they’ve regained control of themselves just in time to join up with the Unavowed, an ancient society dedicated to stopping evil at any cost.
As an agent of the Unavowed, you’ll have the opportunity to make up for your past crimes by battling other supernatural threats, which–in true adventure game fashion–will involve a lot of puzzle-solving. You’ll explore bright cities, dark forests, and dilapidated alleyways, all while keeping your eyes out for your next target.
You’ll encounter a wide variety of magical friends and foes on your journey, including but not limited to dragons, dryads, towering fish people, ominous horned creatures tall enough to look through the upper windows of a multistory building, and a surprising number of ghosts. With hostile supernatural activity sharply on the rise, it’s up to you to decide which supernatural creatures to help and which to fight.
Choose your path, prove yourself to the Unavowed, and do your best to unravel the truth of what happened the night you were possessed. Who really stood to gain from the atrocities committed with your body over the last year? Finding the truth may be what’s needed to save everyone.
Unavowed is now available on PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch.
