Guilty Gear Strive Breaks 500,000 Units Sold Worldwide

Play The Hero

The Guilty Gear series has always been a bit of a dark horse in the fighting game genre: despite consistently solid gameplay, an overly complex plot and a distinct anime style may have contributed to it never really taking off in the west. That’s changed now though, with the release of the critically-acclaimed latest title in the series Guilty Gear Strive.

Developed by Arc System Works, the minds behind recent hits Dragon Ball FighterZ and BlazBlue, Guilty Gear Strive has taken the world by storm. It’s by far the most accessible Guilty Gear title to date, with a highly-stylized UI guiding players through their inputs and making everything nice and ease to parse. Add to that a kick-ass guitar-laden soundtrack and a gorgeous anime style, and you’ve got a hit on your hands.

Today, Arc System Works made two big announcements: First of all, Guilty Gear Strive has managed to sell over 500,000 copies around the world. Coming just a month after the game’s release, it seems that Guilty Gear Strive is set for a long and healthy life in the fighting game scene.

The second announcement is probably of much more interest to Guilty Gear Strive players: On July 21, at 6pm PST, Arc System Works will be revealing the first DLC character on their YouTube channel! According to the Season 1 roadmap, this is going to be a brand-new character, while the next DLC character, set to release in August, will be a playable character from a past entry into the series. To help with building hype for the DLCs, you can pick up the Season 1 Pass right now at a reduced price!

Guilty Gear Strive is available right now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC – or, if you’re feeling a bit adventurous, you can try to hunt down one of the Guilty Gear Strive arcade machines!
