Stealing Your Desires vs Taking Your Heart, Round One, Fight!
Setting aside questions about execution and cultural dissonance, Persona 5 is a game about rebellion and fighting against corruption, so it makes perfect sense that its hack-and-slash spin-off, Persona 5 Strikers, would continue those themes. The Phantom Thieves of Hearts spent their first title battling the forces of the establishment and the entitled adults who sought to control their lives. Now, the team is once again called into action to fight for freedom. Silent protagonist Joker comes back to Tokyo just in time for the group to stumble across a new source of corruption sweeping over Japan: an alternate shadow dimension called Jail ruled by celebrity idol Alice Hiiragi, who’s using a phone app to suck people into her world and steal their desires.
Everybody looks fantastic, the combat is smooth, and the plot already has us hooked. Alice is waging war on peoples’ minds and souls. If our plucky teenage heroes (and their new PI and AI sidekicks) are going to save the day, they’re gonna have to travel to six different cities and fight Alice’s minions on her own turf. You know what that means. Road trip!
