Jack Black Joins the Borderlands Movie Cast as Claptrap

Finally, a Casting I Can Get Behind

The cast for Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie is growing faster and faster. After Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis have been cast as Lilith, Roland, and Patricia Tannis respectively, now Jack Black joins the cast in a role that I can actually see him shining in. Jack Black has officially signed on to play Claptrap, the annoying, unloved, robotic screwup of the Borderlands universe. I for one look forward to hearing Jack Black struggle against stairs. Kevin Hart would probably make a better Claptrap, but JB is a good choice too.

Jack Black Borderlands Movie

Claptrap is one of the few characters to appear in all four Borderlands games. He is often made the butt of the joke or the beginning of a ridiculous quest or objective. Claptrap also creates a sense of grand self-importance to hide his crippling sadness, so Jack Black’s comedic chops will definitely help him bring Claptrap to life, a sad, miserable, lousy life. This will be a team up for Kevin Hart and Jack Black for the the third time in the last few years, the first two being the recent Jumanji movies.

The cast is shaping up to be loaded with big names. It is unclear what other characters will be cast in this this movie, but if the original game is anything to go off of, we may be seeing some other names taking up the roles of Mordecai, Brick, and maybe Dr. Zed, Scooter, and Moxie. We shall see though. The Borderlands movie has no release date as of yet.
