Physical Games Continue to Sell Well in the UK

Over 1 Million Physical Games Purchased in a Week in the UK

According to recent sales charts in the UK, physical games continue to sell well despite multiple companies pushing for digital sales. The Black Friday week sales saw over a million physical games sold, primarily FIFA 21 and Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. Year-over-year, this still shows a decline from last year’s physical games sold in the UK which was closer to 1.3 million, but it’s only a slight decrease considering the COVID-19 impact this year. FIFA 21 is available right now for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

While FIFA 21 and Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War led the top of the Black Friday week sales charts in the UK, Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to show sales dominance in the region as it rounds out the top three. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla rounded out the rest of the top five in the UK sales chart for last week’s physical game sales. The cross-generational PlayStation title, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the best-selling PS5 title in the UK from last week, with Demon’s Souls failing to crack the top ten.

The remaining physical games that sold well in the UK during last week’s Black Friday deals are Marvel’s Avengers, Minecraft for Nintendo Switch, the limited-edition Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and Just Dance 2021. Although Assassin’s Creed Valhalla retained a sales lead the week that Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War released, it looks like the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise has reached the expected heights in the UK just a bit late.
