The Elder Scrolls VI Features Several Engine Changes

Director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios Todd Howard has officially confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI features “probably the largest” overhaul in the history of the series, suggesting the jump from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to The Elder Scroll VI will be larger than the jump from Morrowind to Oblivion. The team has more than five times the usual amount of developers working on the engine than usual/ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available right now for previous generation consoles as well as Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

“From rendering to animation to pathing to procedural generation… I don’t want to say everything, but it’s a significant overhaul,” aIS Todd Howard. “It’s taken us longer than we would have liked, but it’s going to power everything we’re doing with Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6. When people see the results, they’ll hopefully be as happy as we are with what’s on the screen and also how we can go about making our games.” Since the purchase of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft, Bethesda now works to change TES engine under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella.

While the new Bethesda engine for The Elder Scrolls VI will drastically overhaul The Elder Scrolls yet again, we also expect it to continue feeling like a TES game, with fun quirky bugs still included for the community to discover. The Elder Scrolls VI hasn’t been officially confirmed for any consoles, but it’s likely not coming to the PS4 or Xbox One with the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 launching this week. The Elder Scrolls VI was briefly teased back in 2018 and has since gone dark, but the team is apparently prepping the series for some long-awaited drastic changes.
