Phil Spencer Is Impressed by Elden Ring

Elden Ring Is “Miyazaki Expanding His Horizons”

During a recent interview, executive vice-president of Gaming at Microsoft Phil Spencer confirmed that he’s played quite a bit of From Software’s Elden Ring and that it’s the most ambitious game that Hidetaka Miyazaki has made thus far. When discussing Elden Ring, Spencer admits that he isn’t very good at it, but that Miyazaki is so passionate about the game and he’s expanding his horizons. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is From Software’s most recent title, and it’s available right now for PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.

“As somebody who’s played all of (Hidetaka) Miyazaki’s games over at least the last decade, this (Elden Ring) is clearly the most ambitious game that he’s done,” said Phil Spencer. “I mean, I love his games, but seeing some of the gameplay mechanics stuff that he’s tackling, he and the team are tackling this time, of the setting, working with another creator in terms of story. I love it… I’ve seen actually quite a bit. I’ve played quite a bit.” According to Phil Spencer, Hidetaka Miyazaki is also expanding his horizons with Elden Ring.

“I think that’s because I’m a bad player, and then when he comes back we’ll have a conversation about things that I think,” continued Phil Spencer. “He’s so passionate about what he does. It’s one of the things I just love about getting to work with him on some of these games and seeing them come to our platform.” Considering From Software and Hidetaka Miyazaki are behind some of the best, most ambitious games in the industry, we’re interested to see exactly what Phil Spencer is talking about when more of Elden Ring is revealed.
