Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Its First Console Gameplay Reveal

The Night City Wire Special We’ve All Been Waiting For

Cyberpunk 2077 is our white whale. The one we’ve spent years hunting down in the turbulent ocean of the industry, straining to see a glimpse of fin. We’ve got music videos, delays, concerns about crunch, and even shoes, but we don’t have the game itself. Today, we got one step closer to finally catching that great beast. Wait, you can’t take steps in the ocean. Our metaphor has officially broken down! And you know what else has broken down? Us, when we saw this footage of Cyberpunk 2077 running on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. Hold us, we need a moment. It’s so beautiful… slightly less beautiful on Xbox One X, but what can you do? Console generations gonna console generation.

In this special episode of Night City Wire, CD Projekt Red invites gamers around the world to take a sneak peek at some footage (slightly edited to remove spoilers) from the upcoming title. The first thing that struck us about the video was the atmosphere. The towering neon environment of Night City was immediately immersive. We kept looking out our actual, physical window whenever someone honked in-game, the soundscape is that convincing. The lighting is breathtaking on the Series X, and the soundtrack had our foot tapping the whole time. Even the driving sections look cool. That’s the main thing we took out of this gameplay reveal: everything about Cyberpunk 2077 looks and sounds cool.

We don’t know it will play yet. Maybe the controls will be sluggish. Maybe it’ll be glitchy outside the studio environment. Maybe driving your car will be absolutely impossible. The game isn’t out yet, and we’re not going to make any sweeping declarations until we have that white whale in our hands. But it’s closer now than it’s ever been before, and it is majestic.

Cyberpunk Night City
