We’re Going to Rise to the Top
We’ve already talked about Yakuza: Like a Dragon at length. Every new trailer shows off more to be excited for in the upcoming RPG, whether it’s just showcasing the new turn-based system or the job system, which puts a spin on the tried and true formula by having each class be a real life job like chef, musician, or breakdancer. Now, we have another new trailer to get excited for, and it gives us a deeper look into the main character, Ichiban, and his unique mindset.
We’ve mentioned before that Ichiban is Yakuza’s answer to Abed Nadir, constantly filtering his experiences through the framework of his favorite video games. The trailer shows us our first peek of his personality, talking about his desire to be a hero, just like those in his favorite video games, and explicitly referring to the events of the game as his quest.
The trailer also shows off some of the Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s mini-games, from relatively normal ones like karaoke and batting cages to the more… eccentric, like high-octane school tests. The game also features an arcade filled with SEGA games and, while we don’t know how many will be included – or how much of each we’ll get to play – it definitely adds a sense of value.
We also get to see more of the game’s wacky sense of humor, whether it’s Ichiban going into battle with a chicken that doesn’t lay eggs so much as shoot them, summoning a group of lobsters to attack his enemy using his cellphone, or taking time to goof off with a schoolchild. The unique sense of humour and meta twist is bound to attract new fans to the franchise, and help it stand out from the RPG crowd.
