Rumor: A Big Remake is Coming to PS5

!

Good news Konami fans (or good rumors, at any rate): Silent Hill isn’t the only franchise that could be headed to the PS5 – or even the only franchise that’s had Hideo Kojima take on directing duties, because, according to YouTube channel RedGamingTech’s sources, a remake of Metal Gear Solid is reportedly in the works as a PS5 exclusive.

The original game in the series (or, at least, the original one to bear the Metal Gear Solid title as opposed to the original Metal Gear games) sees series protagonist Solid Snake drawn out of retirement to take down the members of his former special forces unit, Foxhound, who have taken control of Shadow Moses Island and are holding the United States ransom with a nuclear weapon, codenamed Metal Gear Rex. However, each member of Foxhound have their own specific skills to bring to the table, from expert markswoman Sniper Wolf to the telekinetic Psycho Mantis.

The series as a whole is renowned for codifying stealth gameplay and for its complex storyline, with vast government conspiracies, genetic modification, and quasi-supernatural enemies among the series trademarks. While it may not be the most beloved game in the series (an honour that goes to the third entry, Snake Eater) it’s definitely one of them, and manages to avoid some of the issues that became more prevalent from the second game onwards.

Given that Kojima left Konami to form his own studio, and that Metal Gear Survive – the latest game in the franchise – was the lowest selling entry in the series, it’d be fair to assume that Metal Gear Solid was dead, but if the rumors are true then we may just see a revival – and, possibly, a future for the franchise.
