Gamers Can Finally Cancel Pre-Orders on the Switch eShop
Nintendo has officially updated the Switch eShop and a change to its eShop policy to allow gamers to cancel pre-orders. The new eShop change won’t charge your card until seven days before the software’s official release, allowing Nintendo fans plenty of time to cancel their pre-orders if something comes up. For a while now, Nintendo Switch owners who pre-ordered games through the Nintendo eShop were unable to cancel a pre-order and they were charged for the game upon clicking the option. Nintendo Switch Online will bring your eShop pre-orders online for $19.99 per year.
In a recent statement, Nintendo confirmed that they’ll no longer take the necessary funds the second someone hits the pre-order button. Previous to the policy change, Nintendo let people know ahead of time through the eShop that no refunds would be offered prior to purchase. Nintendo made the announcement on their official website, but it has also been confirmed that UK and US eShops have received the policy adjustment that Japan has.
Nintendo Switch gamers can finally cancel their pre-orders if they change their mind on an upcoming title, whether it be realizing the game isn’t for them, disagreements with the development process, drastic gameplay changes during development, lack of funds, or any other reason someone would cancel a pre-order. We’re all in favor of consumer freedom, and the Nintendo Switch eShop’s policy prior to the recent changes were definitely not pro-consumer. It’s likely that these changes will encourage gamers to continue pre-ordering through the eShop.
