I Dream of Half-Genie
It’s been nearly a year since Shantae and the Seven Sirens debuted, so I think we can say that we have officially entered the phase of being in between Shantae games. For ultimate Shantae fans, and the especially cultured ones, there is a hardcover artbook coming out soon, and is available now for pre-order. First announced way back at San Diego Comic Con 2017, The Art of Shantae will be coming out this holiday season. The newest game’s release may have delayed it to make it a little more complete.
Shantae has changed a bit in the 18 years since her video game debut. Since The Art of Shantae will cover all five games, we will get to see her design evolution. Her waist fills out a little more, her hips get wider, her legs get shorter, and her hair gets a bit bigger and more angular. Other than that, her traditional outfit remains largely the same, with a few exceptions. She has however donned entirely different clothes like in Half-Genie Hero DLC and in Seven Sirens. We will also see the different recurring characters throughout the years like Uncle Mimic, Bolo, Sky, Rottytops, Giga Mermaid, Squid Baron, and Risky Boots.
It is available for pre-order, but unfortunately we don’t really get to see what it really contains. It has 224 pages of art that we do not get to see, but the cover does share the same art as the Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – Ultimate Edition that features Shantae and the gang, with Shantae’s bathing suit, ninja outfit, and officer uniform. The book will cost about $50 and will ship in December, 2020. It can really bring together your library of video game academia.
