Dead by Daylight Is Coming to the Google Stadia

It’s Official: The Bestselling Horror Game Is Coming to the Upcoming Gaming Platform

Dead by Daylight recently celebrated its fourth anniversary, and it’s safe to say that the future’s looking bright- or as bright as it can in the Dead by Daylight universe. Not only did the game recently drop the Silent Hill Chapter (including a special arrangement of the theme tune by legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka), but developer Behavior recently announced that the game will be joining the Stadia’s ever-growing library.

Dead by Daylight Adam and Spirit

For those of you that are out of the loop, Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that pits four survivors against one killer. Death is no escape, as any time a survivor dies or escapes a trial they find themselves back at a campfire in the forest, waiting for the next trial to begin. There’s a good mix of original characters (Such as the ax-throwing Huntress and the madness-inducing Doctor) and established horror icons (like Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Leatherface, to name just a few). Four new DLC chapters drop every year, each bringing new characters, new maps, and new perks to keep the gameplay fresh.

Interestingly, the new platform comes with two unique game mechanics that aren’t found on any other console: Crowd Choice and Crowd Play. Both are designed for streamers and their fans, with Crowd Choice letting the viewers directly choose which character the streamer will play as, and (presumably) their loadout. Crowd Play, meanwhile, lets streamers invite viewers to play with them. The one major downside is that most of the most popular DBD streamers, like Otzdarva and Monto, play on the PC, and at this point we don’t know if they’ll migrate over to the new platform or whether this will see some other streamers rise in prominence.

In other news, rumors are flying that we’re due to see two more established horror franchises in the game, each with a corresponding map, survivor, and killer. Dead by Daylight allows players to purchase DLC in-game with either Iridescent Shards (which are earned during gameplay) or Auric Cells (Which need to be purchased). However, so far any DLC coming from a licensed franchise has been purchasable exclusively with Auric Cells, and data miners recently found that this is the case for both upcoming chapters, 17 and 18. With many horror icons such as Pinhead, Pennywise, and Candyman popping up in fan theories again and again, things are as exciting as ever in the Dead by Daylight world.
