WWE 2K21 Is Apparently Cancelled, News Coming Next Week

2K Is Not OK

A little while ago, there was a rumor going around that WWE 2K21 was not going to happen. This rumor came from Justin Leeper who has ties to both WWE as a wrestler and the video game industry as an actor. He said that he has trusted sources that say that this year’s WWE game has been cancelled, and that appears to be the case. Wrestling and MMA news website Fightful reports that WWE confirmed this rumor on an investor call, saying that WWE 2K21 was not planned for in the budget.

WWE 2K21

As believable as this may be, Fightful does not actually bring forth solid evidence or confirmation of these claims. However, last night, @WWEgames did send out a tweet that does raise suspicions that lends itself to this claim. It reads, “We will be sharing details on the future of the WWE 2K franchise as well as some exciting news on Monday at 7:00 a.m. PT.” This is basically the video game equivalent of saying “listen, we need to talk.” WWE game titles have been annual releases since 2012 (published by 2K since 2014). Before 2012, WWE: SmackDown! Vs RAW games had annual releases from 2005 to 2011, so in some way, shape, or form there has been a WWE game every year.

The annual release trend will probably continue for WWE, but it just won’t be WWE 2K21. Instead, they may return to SmackDown! Vs RAW or a new series. We will likely find out at the beginning of next week. WWE 2K20 is available now for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, but do you really want to get the game that is responsible for changing the franchise for the worse?

What do you think 2K and WWE are going to do for this year’s game? Let us know in the comments below.
