Gearbox Really Wants You to Stay at Home
Gearbox’s public image is like a teeter-totter; one day they are accused of withholding royalties, the next they launch a mini-game to benefit the scientific community. Today, they announced that Borderlands: GOTY Edition is free for the next week on Xbox One and Steam. Though it does not explicitly mention any social distancing, quarantine, or Coronavirus, this may be another incentive to get fans to stay home for the next while. It might just be a regular promotion though. Regardless, it just goes to show that if your ol’ pal Zane buys something, it will likely go on sale or be free in a month or so.
If you didn’t jump into the Borderlands series at the very beginning, Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition comes with the base game, plus the four major DLCs; The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, The Secret Armoury of General Knoxx, and Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution. You can play as Brick the Berserker, Lilith the Siren, Mordecai the Hunter, or Roland the Soldier. Starting now, Borderlands Game of the Year Edition is free on Steam and Xbox One. The free week ends for Xbox One at midnight on April 22nd and for PC at 8:00 AM on April 23rd.
There is certainly more than a week’s worth of gameplay if you milk it for all its worth, but you can also finish it and scoop up all the achievements within a week if you are super determined. If you haven’t played Borderlands 1 since the early days of its initial launch, it has aged, but it is still a good time. What’s more is that if you take advantage of this free week, you can buy the game later and your progress will carry over. Borderlands: GOTY Edition is available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and will be launching on the Nintendo Switch as part of the Borderlands: Legendary Collection on May 29th.
