Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access Features Five Companions to Start
Larian Studios will be releasing Baldur’s Gate in early access with five companions to choose from right away. More companions will be added at a later date, but none of them have been specified yet. Gamers can choose between a selection of pre-made characters or create their ideal one on their own. The early access phase will help Larian Studios flesh out each of the individual systems in the game and balance everything appropriately. Baldur’s Gate 3 is releasing in early access this year for PC and Google Stadia, while Google Stadia will receive exclusive content.
Larian Studios is using the Divinity 4.0 Engine to build the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 and it offers full performance capture and cinematics, four player multiplayer and co-op splitscreen multiplayer for two players. The game promises over 100 hours of gameplay that follow the lore of Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms world, with 15 races and subraces, as well as eight classes to choose between. “The reason we’re selling it through Early Access is we have this many permutations, this many systems that are all working together, so it’s going to take us some time to get everything to a state where we can say ‘okay, now it’s robust and it works in every single fashion’,” said Larian Studios’CEO Swen Vincke.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was showed off during PAX East, with Larian Studios mentioning exclusive features coming to Google Stadia. One of the features coming exclusively to Stadia is a multiplayer screen sharing ability that lets players see everyone else’s screens at once. This will allow gamers playing multiplayer to keep up with each other and strategize more effectively for the game streaming console. The Crowd Choice feature is another Stadia exclusive and it will allow streamers to give their viewers direct control over decisions and even die rolls.
