Conronavirus Scare Forces Kojima Productions to Withdraw From GDC

Coronavirus Has Everyone on Edge

The deadly coronavirus has stopped Kojima Productions from attending this year’s Game Developers Conference. The minds behind games like Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid will not be attending due to the potential risks of large gatherings. This has not been the first time that a company has not shown up to industry events due to scares surrounding the new virus. Entire events have been canceled or postponed in order to take precautionary measures to remain safe from potential infection.

The coronavirus started in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has since spread around most of East Asia and to parts of Europe and North America as well. The number of confirmed cases are overwhelmingly in China, but that has not stopped Kojima Productions to err on the side of caution. The new and mysterious disease can be fatal and there is currently no cure. The virus is really only dangerous to those who have a compromised immune system or the very young and old. Healthy people who are in the prime of their lives are unlikely to die from coronavirus.

A number of PUBG tournaments were canceled or moved to a later date in order to stop the risk of further infection. While the virus does not appear to be the apocalyptic event that some were forecasting, chances are that it is going to be very difficult to hold any sort of large event or gathering while the virus still exists without a proven cure available.

Stay safe and continue to wash your hands after you have been outside. The chances of contracting the virus are low. But it is also a good idea to play it safe.
