Say Farewell – Duelyst Servers Shut Down in February

To the Shadow Realm

The tactical card game Duelyst had a rough go of it since, well, it’s conception. Now, it’s developer Counterplay Games is calling it quits on the game. It was announced and kickstarted back in 2014. In 2016, it was released as a free-to-play game. In 2017, things were looking up. Publisher Bandai Namco picked up Duelyst, but unfortunately the game still did not find the players it needed to succeed. On January 24th, Counterplay Games announced that the Duelyst servers would shut down on February 27th.

Duelyst Servers

To give an idea on just how much the game struggled, in 2019, the average concurrent player count was below 100. Most games would get kind of stale if all the players you faced were in the same pool of 90. While Counterplay Games did not specifically say that player count was the reason to pull the plug, it was probably definitely the reason. If you are one of those under 100 people, A) I’m sorry for your loss, and B) there’s good new for the next thirty days. While Diamonds (which is a form of premium currency) will no longer be purchasable, Orbs will be discounted by 99%. Players can use Diamonds to purchase Orbs, but now it’s basically an Orb firesale until the game shuts down.

This change to Orb cost was part of Counterplay’s shutdown announcement:

  • 3 Orbs = From 450 to 4 Diamonds
  • 10 Orbs = From 1450 to 14 Diamonds
  • 25 Orbs = From 3500 to 35 Diamonds
  • 50 Orbs = From 6000 to 60 Diamonds

Now is the time to get the most out of your Diamonds. Also, any Diamond purchases made between December 21st and January 24th will be refunded upon request. Fare thee well, Duelyst.
