The Nintendo Switch Sold 830,000 Units in US During Thanksgiving Week
While Japan and the UK have reported successful Nintendo Switch sales since Pokemon Sword and Shield launched, the US has sold 830,000 units over the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The week of Thanksgiving accounts for the platforms best sales week in the US to date according to Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite are available now and gamers who subscribe to the online service get access to libraries of SNES and NES titles.
The platform is surging in sales recently with recent games such as Pokemon and Luigi’s Mansion driving not just software sales, but Switch unit sales as well with the platform seeing a 70% increase in unit sales in the UK and a market leading 95% of all console sales in Japan. Nintendo cited the Switch Lite’s release and several Black Friday offers and bundles as reasons for the recent high sales but their software lineup should also be given credit with titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate selling well since they released.
According to the press release about US sales, Nintendo mentioned Pokemon Sword and Shield have officially sold over 3 million in the Americas, aka US, Canada, Mexico and South America. The new sales figures also have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 8.5 million units sold and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at 8 million units sold. Apparently Super Mario Odyssey is at 6.5 million units sold, with New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe at a much less stellar 1.5 million units sold. While the software breaks records, the console itself remains the top console sold for several months.
