Game Awards Viewership up 73% From Last Year

Game Awards Viewership Rose Nearly 75% From Last Year

According to a recent Tweet from the host and producer of the Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, the event saw over 45 million livestreams around the world. This viewership accounts for an increase of 73% year over year for the Game Awards which is a significant boost. This year was apparently the most watched of any of the Game Awards up to this point and it’s likely that all of the world premiere’s helped them boost their numbers, with Sucker Punch teasing a full trailer for Ghost of Tsushima days in advance. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, it’s inevitable that the event will continue next year with the success found this year.

The Game Awards 2019

“Thank you for watching and supporting #TheGameAwards We’re honored to announce a record 45 million livestreams for the 2019 show,” said Geoff Keighley. “an increase of 73% over last year. The gaming industry keep growing. And I finally got to meet Beaker.” Although we were part of the gargantuan 45 million number, we didn’t expect the gaming awards show to be received so well this year. The show featured less blatant product placement in comparison to other years and the event moved a lot faster than usual. We’re impressed with Geoff Keighley’s dedication to the event and respect his Canadian ancestry.

Several new titles made their official debut at the Game Awards this year, including The Wolf Among Us 2, Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga and Sons of the Forest. The Xbox Series X was unveiled at the event before Microsoft later confirmed that their next-gen console is simply named Xbox, with series X taking the place of S, X, or all-digital on current generation hardware. Ghost of Tsushima received a meaty gameplay trailer which showed off the abilities of the games hero. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice also became the game of the year at the Game Awards to cap off the popular and jam packed event.
