D&D Dark Alliance Brings an Intense Co-op Adventure in Fall 2020
During The Game Awards this year, Wizards of the Coast unveiled the upcoming co-op adventure Dungeons & Dragons title called Dark Alliance. Montreal-based studio, Tuque Games is developing the title which was recently acquired by Wizards of the Coast and is already hard at work. This four-player cooperative experience is slightly different from previous D&D titles in the sense that it will offer a third-person perspective instead of top-down. D&D Dark Alliance will release in the Fall of 2020 for consoles and PC.
Fans of the Forgotten Realms setting will recognize familiar characters in D&D Dark Alliance such as Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-Brie, the dwarf king Bruenor Battlehammer and Wulfgar the Barbarian as well as the Icewind Dale setting. Although the platforms haven’t been fully confirmed yet, Dark Alliance will likely release on this generation of console as well as the next as a cross-generational title.
“It’s about you and your friends braving the wilds of Icewind Dale. It’s one of the harshest places in the entire multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons. You’ve got frost giants. You’ve got goblins. You’ve got gnolls everywhere. You can play the game in single-player. But the thing is, if you play it alone, you’re going to have a hard time,” said Tuque Games’ studio head Jeff Hattem. “Back in the day, the older Dark Alliance games, they were, for many people, the first introduction they ever got to Dungeons & Dragons. People got introduced into the world of D&D through those video games, and then got excited about the world and expanded out from there. We think our game has the possibility to also introduce a lot of people to the world of Dungeons & Dragons.”
